Yummy is a vegan cupcake lover's wet dream with a whopping 119 imaginative flavors on its vegan menu. 119! The Arnold Palmer, Buttered Popcorn and Green Tea Wasabi are just a few of the unique and daring varieties baked right on site. So far I've tried the Vanilla, Red Velvet, Berry Pie, Almond Almond and Mocha - all of which gave me a chard on, but the standout superstar of the bunch is the PB&J. (Not pictured because I couldn't resist eating it before pulling out my camera.)
I realize I tend to throw around the word "best," on this blog a lot, mostly because I'm not very articulate and possess lackluster vocabulary skills, but in the case of the PB&J cupcake at Yummy, no other word can describe it; it is simply THE BEST cupcake I have ever tasted.
The natural oil in the peanut butter makes the cake melt-on-your-tongue moist, and the shot of grape jelly injected into the center comes gushing out with every bite. Using chunky peanut butter in the batter is a nice touch too. The butter cream frosting is sweet with a hint of peanut butter and a swirl of jelly for good measure. I can't convey to you how f**king awesome this cupcake is. You have to taste it for yourself.
Yummy Cupcakes has three LA locations: Burbank, Brentwood and Santa Monica. They offer vegan and non-vegan flavors. The vegan cupcakes are marked and sprinkled with a pinch of real cane sugar to tell them apart from the regular cupcakes. But here's the rub: Yummy only makes 3 of its 119 vegan flavors each day. The selection is constantly rotating, so if you want to try a certain cupcake you'll have to check their monthly calendar to see when it will be available. Take my advice, wait until PB&J day and then go to town on 'em sonsabitches. Just don't make any plans for afterwards; you're gonna need a nap.
And thus wraps up this Not So Manly Vegan Man Cave review. I can't promise there won't be more talk of cupcakes and cookies and white wine spritzers in The Man Cave, but I can promise to get back to dishing on more dude-centric stuff next time, like craft beerskis, faux chicken wings and bench pressing (????).
